Barbara Heck

BARBARA RUCKLE (Heck). Bastian Ruckle as well as Margaret Embury had a daughter called Barbara (Heck), born 1734. In 1760 she married Paul Heck and together they raised seven children. Four survived to adulthood.

Most of the time subjects have participated at important occasions and expressed unique thoughts or ideas which were recorded on paper. Barbara Heck however left no letters or statements indeed the evidence for such matters as the day of her wedding is not the most important. There is no primary source that can be used to reconstruct Barbara Heck's motives or actions during most of her life. However, she has become a heroic figure in early North American Methodism theology. Biographers must establish the myth, describe the meaning and then describe the person who is enshrined within.

Abel Stevens a Methodist Historian recorded the event in 1866. Barbara Heck has taken the highest spot on the New World's ecclesiastical lists because of the growth of Methodism. Her reputation is more based on the weight of the cause she was associated with than her personal life. Barbara Heck had a fortuitous contribution to the development of Methodism in The United States of America and Canada. Her fame is based on the natural characteristic that any successful organisation or organization must emphasize the cause of their movement in order increase the sense of the past.
