Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1937 - August 17, 2015) was an American actress and ballet dancer best known for her role in the role of Batgirl in the 1960s television series Batman and as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969). The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes for television." Yvonne Craig was raised in Columbus and was born in Taylorville in Illinois. Her family relocated to Dallas in 1951. She was a student at W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School and then W. H. Adamson High School. Unfortunately, she did not graduate due to the fact that she didn't have "one credits for PE". Craig was found by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in 1951, becoming the youngest member of the corps de ballet. While she was performing as Batgirl and was a Batgirl, the lessons proved very beneficial. She left the ballet troupe in the year 1957 "over a disagreement on casting changes" and moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of pursuing her dance career, but she was cast in films. One of her earliest television performances was on the episode of the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover" 1958) along with Neil Hamilton, who played her stepfather (later Hamilton played Police Commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl's father). After that, she appeared in three films - The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and she also appeared in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig was seen in the films Bing Crosby and Seven Women from Hell (1960), in which she was joined by Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared as guest on the Western Laramie show "The Long Road Back". Craig also starred with Elvis Presley's roles in It Was at the World's Fair (1963), and Kissin' Cousins (64). In 1966, she was a part-time actress in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she appeared as an Russian ballet dancer in In Like Flint.
