Alexandra Rose
Raisman, born May 25 1994 she is an American retired artistic gymnast. She was
twice Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain
for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. At the 2016
Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she received a gold medal at the team competition
with teammates Gabby Douglas and Gabby Douglas the only Americans to have
back-toback team gold medals. Raisman also won silver medals for individual all-around
and for floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the individual
all-around in addition to the floor exercise. She was also the two-time
national champion of floor exercise (2012,2015) in 2012, and the national
champion in 2012 of balance beam and five-time medalist at national
championships in all-around (silver in 2016, and silver in 2012, 2011, 2012,
and 2015. In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of
Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham,
Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast, and Rick
Raisman. Her younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish
and claims that "I am very grateful for being able not only to be a
representative of the U.S.A but as well the Jewish Community across the
world." Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months. She attributes
her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American
women's team that won the gold medal at 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete began
her training at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8. She then moved to
Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was coached by Silvia Brestyan
and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012 after
finishing her senior year online classes while training to compete in the
Olympics.
